Everyone that knows me knows that I am determined to be the best at whatever it is that I choose to do. So when I began internet marketing I knew that before I became the best I would have to follow the best. That is what I recommend anyone does, regardless of whatever field they are entering. You want to follow the best and model them as best as you can. You become their "mini-me." You do what they do, act as they act, and believe as they believe. In the end you have what they have and have become a leader as they are, but you are still unique in many ways. Reason being is that you will tend to follow more than one leader, adopting various points of view and ways of being. Your end up meshing all your favorite characteristics of the leaders you modeled. This becomes who you are, with your own viewpoints, mannerisms, etc. BUT one thing remains the same (besides mindset)...the skills/concepts that got you to the top. There are always a few basic skills/concepts that will take you to the top, regardless of your industry, if you really take the time to learn them and implement them correctly. I'm here to let you in on one of the skills I was told by many of my mentors/coaches I MUST learn if I really wanted success in this industry. I see how they have mastered this skill themselves and how it has benefited their businesses GREATLY!! I have not seen ANY top earner in this industry that has not understood and mastered the #1 skill of COPYWRITING.
I have learned, and am still learning, this skill. I LOVE IT! This is probably the easiest (financially easy) tool to learn for newbies, but it carries the MOST value!! Learning this skill is extremely budget-friendly. There are many low-cost books, ebooks, and online courses that are great in teaching copywritiing, but there are also just as many FREE resources for learning the coveted skill. I will mention some of my favorite resources, cheap and free, throughout my posts (will also be on my resource page).
Copywriting is the foundation of your marketing success. All of your campaigns will need excellent copywriting. It goes like this... weak copywriting = a weak campaign = minimal traffic = minimal leads = minimal (if any) $$ in your pocket.
Let's take a look at one of the best traffic-getting-tools...PPC (Pay-Per-Click). Of course you need to really learn what you are doing with a PPC campaign, but if all of your ads have terrible copy NOBODY is going to click on your ads/links!! This will, and has, cause you to grow broke SUPER fast! You started in this industry to MAKE money, NOT lose it all when it could have easily been prevented.
Copywriting really comes in handy after you have acquired customers and people on your list. Your follow-up messages in your auto-responder should be written well, otherwise potential customers on your list will opt-out and never want to buy anything from you. Superb copy is important in building your list, keeping it, and converting those emails into sales and $$ in your pocket.
With that said, I chosen to dedicate my next 30 days to learning and applying many copywriting techniques. I will post everyday about what it is that I have learned that day. I do this not only to keep myself accountable, but for those of us that value free, quality information that increases our worth. There are many ways to influence others, but today I will only discuss one of which interests me greatly. It is only one strategy but it uses several methods to achieve its desired outcome. It has proven to be EXTREMELY powerful when used correctly. It is something that can be utilized within just about anything where influence and decisions are needed. Today I was thinking back when I got started in this industry; when I went to hotel meetings and other training events. Know that the simple act of having someone write their commitment down can benefit them, you, or you both in a huge way.
Lastly, being consistent with your decisions also stems from what others expect you to be like. Basically, what others say you are, you tend to try living up to their expectations. One of my favorite books of all time, "Influence: Science and Practice," by Robert Cialdini, speaks of this exact influence mechanism. In an example, Robert says there was a couple that he had studied that had been told that they were very charitable.
